Stages

picture-1

Lance Armstrong Foundation asked Shepard Fairey to do a piece for their show Stages.

Nike Stages Show

Shepard did the piece based on a photo of Jessica Ikenberry (by Andrena Photography) that we used early on in Waiting Room.  He has been a great supporter of Waiting Room with his design advice and his encouragement. Jessica has been an inspiration and a cover girl for Waiting Room.

The photos of Jessica on the site and on the banner are by photographer Dave Naz who donated the shoot.

We are lucky to have so many great people on board. New issue coming soon. Stay tuned.

Looking Good Does Make Us Feel Better

LGFB 20th Anniversary As more and more cancer survivors become outspoken about treating the whole patient, external appearance is becoming recognized as an important component of the patient experience. If you are going through treatment for cancer, don’t overlook the benefits of participating in a local Look Good, Feel Better event. You will not only learn how to wear a wig, create the look of fluffy eyelashes where you have none, and cover up chemo-induced skin blotches from a kind and talented beauty professional but you will meet other survivors and leave with a bag of fabulous (name brand) products.

This special service, started by the Personal Care Products Council Foundation in conjunction with The American Cancer Society and National Cosemetology Association, is in it’s twentieth year. Check out a list of products and services provided especially in support of LGFB’s Anniversary and then visit their program finder and start feeling better!

Climb for the Cure 2009

Eric Malehorn | Climb for Breast Cancer 2009 This is cool - an event hosted by my friends brother…

My name is Eric Malehorn - This July I will be participating in a charity called “Climb for the Cure” in which I will climb Mt. Rainier to raise money for Breast Cancer Research benefiting the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.  Your support will help fund cutting-edge research in the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer. Fortunately enough, I will not be doing this alone. I, along with four other friends from the Philadelphia area, will be making our way up to the summit as Team Cheesesteaks and Crampons (Crampons; the metal spikes that you attach to your climbing boots so you can climb on glaciers and don’t fall off).

Mount Rainer is the fourth tallest mountain in the Nation.  It stands over 14,411 feet above sea level.  The climb takes 3 days and consists of over 30 hours of rock, snow, and glacier climbing.
Below is a link to my personal webpage. Please click on the link and donate if you’d like.Information for donations by mail is listed at the bottom.  Remember every donation counts.  We are trying to raise $30,000 this year, and be the first team ever from the East Coast to climb Mt. Rainier through “Climb for the Cure”

Also, Team Cheesesteaks and Crampons (John Gebert, Eric Malehorn, Mike Murzyniski, Matt Urban and Jeff Peters) will be holding our first fundraising event on Saturday Feb 28th at Spamps restaurant in Conshohocken from 9pm to 2am.  The cost is $25 per person and this gets you free food until 11:30pm and drink specials all night long.

Made Me Nuclear, Charlie Lustman’s Pop Operetta about Surviving Cancer

Made Me Nuclear, the pop music operetta from cancer survivor Charlie Lustman, blends humor and intimacy to tell a story that is both personal and universal. Television audiences will recognize him as the performer of the theme song on ABC’s The Mike and Maty Show, but Lustman is perhaps best known for his role in reviving L.A.’s Silent Movie Theatre, the world’s last remaining silent cinema.

The Wellness Community has workshops in the next couple months at the Santa Monica location that look great.

Support groups for young adults are rare, and we are lucky to have one in Los Angeles. There are Wellness Communities throughout the country. If there is not one in your hometown you are encouraged by their headquarters to start you own. If there is a Wellness Community where you live, but no young adult support group, maybe you can start one! More people will show up than you think.

ON MY OWN: BEING SINGLE AND THE CANCER EXPERIENCE

Saturday, September 20, 2008
11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Saturday, October 18, 2008
11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Facilitated by Jill Searle, MFT

Regardless of one’s relationship status, a cancer diagnosis often stimulates feelings of loneliness. Being a single person with a cancer diagnosis, however, may come with a special set of additional issues. Practical concerns, such as getting to and from appointments and procedures, or planning for the aftermath of chemotherapy treatments can become more problematic for those who live on their own. Larger concerns, such as accessing emotional support can feel like it requires more conscious effort than one has the energy to summon. This workshop provides an opportunity to come together with others who live on their own to discuss these challenges and explore solutions.
