This is a pretty hot event. On May 18, 2008 local Philly breast cancer org - Living Beyond Breast Cancer - will be hosting the 6th annual Yoga Unites for Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
From the LBBC website:
Yoga Unites for Living Beyond Breast Cancer is an annual fundraising event that provides a way for individuals and teams to join the community in supporting women affected by breast cancer while experiencing the healing benefits of yoga. Located on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art—one of the city’s greatest landmarks—this half-day event includes a basic outdoor yoga class set against the Philadelphia skyline and a Healthy Living Expo.
The LBBC goal is to raise $50,000 and there is still plenty of time to register and get involved. To register for Yoga Unites follow this link.
Sometimes I wish I lived in Austin. A message from Cancer Diva and Gal Pal, Heidi Adams…
Hi, everyone!
It’s that time again….Flamingo Season! Please join me to launch our 2008 flocking season with an awesome party on the downtown AMLI rooftop deck.
DJ Manny will be spinning tunes, there will be tons of great local food and some fabulous new signature drinks. (Remember last year’s Chemo Cocktail? What–you don’t?!)
Folks, this is our ONLY Austin fundraiser. Please help us make it a success so that we can spend the rest of our time helping young adults with cancer. Buy a ticket! Flock one of your friends (or enemies)! If nothing more, please forward this email to your address book so we can make sure everyone knows about the opportunity and perhaps learns something about our mission to serve young adults with cancer in their 20s and 30s.
Learn more, watch the video, and order tickets at: http://www.flamingoagogo.com.
Tickets will sell out fast, so reserve yours right away! Please let me know if you can make it. Hope to see you there.
Flock on!
Heidi

I am not Catholic and I don’t celebrate Easter, but it is a nice time of year to get together with the fam’ and have some ham (although I am not eating ham at the present moment either…). Anyway…
This is another international cancer post of sorts brought to you by Dougie Matthew’s who is doing a fundraising stunt for the Love Hope Strength Foundation. Later on today Dougie will attempt to eat 16 Cadbury Creme Eggs. Apparently it is a difficult task and if you ask me, visions of Mr. Creosote keep popping into my head just thinking about it.
If you are interested in donating to Dougie’s missery, I mean, donating in support of his fine efforts you can do so here.
The Love Hope Strength Foundation is a good one to know about. Below is a snippet about what they do.
Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHSF) is an international charity with chapters in the US, UK and Australia. Founded by leukemia survivors Mike Peters of the Welsh rock band the Alarm and President of CSI Entertainment James Chippendale with the goal of providing all cancer patients with the same opportunities that they had, including access to information, quality cancer treatment and the best medication available. The Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHSF) raises funds and awareness for international cancer centers and networks through music-related events and promotions.
Its that time of year again when I start reading about cancer bike rides for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. This blog is meant more for the indie-underground-grassroots cancer realted projects, but I got a thing for cycling and a softy for the LAF.
Here is the lasted LAF Benefit courtesy of Cyclingnews.com:
An upcoming ride in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday, March 29 at 7:00 am will raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The ride, with several routes for different skill levels, is organized by Bicycle Ranch and John Nowak, in memory of his mother Dolores, who died after a lengthy battle with cancer. Parlin, NJ, (October 22, 2007) - Dread Central and Level27 Clothing , in association with Toy2R are proud to present QEETASTROPHE, an online charity event that will see the auction of two 16 inch Qee art figures; one signed by legends and upcoming stars of horror films and the other signed by the greatest bands from this summer’s Van’s Warped tour and beyond. The Qee Bear already boasts names like Karen Black, Chris Sarandon, Sid Haig, Tobin Bell and Paris Hilton while the Qee Bunny includes members of Bad Religion, Good Charlotte, Alkaline Trio, New Found Glory, Avenged Sevenfold and Cartel.
The Qeetastrophe Project was born from the pain felt by the families of Paul Nicholasi of Dread Central and his good friend Steve Sievers of the Level27 Clothing, who have lost loved ones to Cancer. Seeking to strike a blow in their names and send a message to the world, the pair repurposed two 16 inch, glow in the dark Qee figures as auction pieces, enlisting their friends in the worlds of horror and music to sign them. Proceeds from the two auctions will benefit St. Jude’s Pediatric Research Hospital.
“On TV at any given time of the day, you’ll find advertisements for Cancer treatment centers” remarked Paul Nicholasi of Dread Central. “It’s become big business and you have to ask yourself why there is so much more Cancer in the world today than there was even five years ago. On this subject, apathy can be the real killer. We hope to raise awareness to this growing crisis and hopefully, give some children a fighting chance at the same time.”
Currently, the Qeetastrophe Project includes over 40 stars of horror films past and present and 19 bands. The pieces will be completed in the next couple of weeks and will be up for auction the end of November. For a full list and updates on this project, please visit www.myspace.com/payback360.
