I’m With Cancer to Star Rogen, McAvoy

james-mcavoy

Seth Rogen and James McAvoy (yeah that guy with those blue eyes)  are  slated to be in I’m With Cancer, a film based on  Will Reiser’s (a producer for some HBO and Vh1) experiences with young adult cancer.   According to an article in First Showing, “The script is about Reiser’s struggle to beat cancer, with a story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease.”

Armstrong and Stages of Global Art

Lance Armstrong’s interest in art was mentioned in a previous blog post, but it is nearly time for the launch of the Stages Global Art Exhibition.

As this art blog explains, the art exhibition will be revealed in different stages, reflecting a theme of stages of a race (the Tour de France is happening right now as a matter of fact), stages of cancer, and just stages of life in general.

The collaboration also includes the release of a sweet Livestrong AirForce One Nike shoe.

National Cancer Survivors Day

plaincirclendblueWe do things our own way here on the Cancer Unsensored Blog, of course, everyday we are here is a day to celebrate - but we did overlook National Cancer Survivors Day last Sunday.

Who is a cancer survivor? The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a “survivor” as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. National Cancer Survivors Day affords your community an opportunity to demonstrate that it has an active, productive cancer survivor population. (from The National Cancer Surviors Day website)

Now, let’s see if we can’t stretch that party into this weekend.

Cancer Controversy of the Week

It’s been all over the news (and a few other personal cancer blogs) this week - a mother ran away with her 13-year old son to avoid further chemo treatment. Read story on MSNBC.

This is the kind of thing that always sparks a few important debates - the right of patients to refuse treatment, the role of parents in their children’s medical treatment, and of course - the non-debate debate - just how crappy is chemo?

Read a quick summary of some of the best editorials here and feel free to discuss/post comments back here on the Cancer Uncensored Blog.

Rescue Me-another hot guy with cancer

rescue-me1Rescue Me is a great show. You can watch it online at hulu.com

One of the hot firefighters (but not the smartest one) finds out he has renal (kidney) cancer at the end of this episode: “Sheila”

The next episode is called “Perspective”

a snippit:

Doctor: “So you’ve had a few days to digest the diagnosis. How are you doing? Are the painkillers working?”

Sean: “I guess…I don’t take them that much cause of work. Um. Oh, I cried a couple times…that was weird, but nobody saw me so that was ok. Pretty much the whole things blows if you ask me. (laugh) So what are my options at this point? Are we thinking about the whole chemo thing? Or…”

Doctor: “Probably not. Kidney cancer is by and large resistant to chemotherapy. Same with radiation therapy. We could try immunotherapy.”

Sean: “Oh hey, that sounds cool. What’s that?”

Doctor: “Well we use some pretty serious drugs to boost your body’s immune system. You’re young and in good shape. You could probably handle the side effects.”

Sean: “Ok…what are those?”

Doctor: “Lemme think…extreme exhaustion, low blood pressure, liquid build-up in the lungs, difficulty breathing, renal damage, heart attack…”

Sean: “Jesus”

Doctor: “…intestinal bleeding, diarrhea, high fever and chills, rapid heartbeat, mental changes…”

Sean: “So, I could… it could make me smarter?”
